Mother Amutha Theos is the present Superior General of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Vellore. With her able leadership, great vision and mission she is leading the Congregation and its sisters towards new heights in growth, Progress, prosperity, perfection and Holiness.
Mother Amutha Theos did her initial studies in Nagercoil town. After completing her B.Sc. degree course in Mathematics in Holy Cross College, Nagercoil she joined the Congregation.
After her first profession she was directly appointed to work in Annai vailankanni Arts and Science College, Tholayavattam, Kanyakumari District. After 2 years she was appointed as Principal in St. Marys Matric. English Medium School, Kodur, Andhra Pradesh. After completing her 5 years in Kodur she was selected by the Congregation for her higher studies in Theology at Kristu Jyothi Theological College in Bangalore. Before she could complete her final two semesters she was sent to the missions in Italy.
Her mission in Italy started as sister in Charge of a Kinder garten in an Italian school. She was fulfilling several other responsibilities like incharge of Caritas activities in the diocese of Florence in Italy, etc. Along with all her duties, she also completed her bachelorate in theology and began her masters in Biblical theology in the University of Florence. She was also the first mission Superior of our missions in Italy. Before she could finish her final semester in masters in Biblical Theology, she is elected as Superior General of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Vellore in the year December 2015.
Mother Amutha Theos is known for her selfless dedication, Commitment and love for the Congregation. Her tireless service for the Congregation led the Congregation to start various new initiatives and challenging endeavours. Her genuine and generous love for the poor has made a rich contribution in the overall growth and development of our Congregation’s missions in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and North India. Some salient works are, Annai Scholastica Arts and Science College for women in Thangachimadam, Ramanathapuram District, Annai Scholastica Home for Disabled children in Assisipuram, Trichy District and Annai Scholastica Home for Mentally challenged children in Melravandavadi, Tiruvannamalai District and above all her new initiatives in creating 3 new delegations and later converting them into 3 provinces. All these have given great vigour and acceleration for the excellent and exemplary mission growth of the Congregation. In the height of all these, the Congregation reached its peak when it is raised to the level of Potinfical Congregation by the Holy Father Francis in the year 2016.
Above all she authored and Co-authored many biblical books like Bible and Feast, Bile and women, Bible comics (50 books), Catechetical tools (12 books) Vocational bible books (2 books) and many articles in Biblical Dictionary and Yesu Kalangiam.
Her remarkable contribution in the field of formation setting right the Congregation archives, creating various new missions and other ambitious projects and visionary contributions which has reinvented and raised our Congregation to new a footing in Tamil Nadu church. We pray that with her accomplished and genius leadership the sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus grow day by day and contribute more and more for the greater glory of God, service to humanity and for building the kingdom of God in the world.
