HISTORY OF CONGREGATION
Mother Scholastica founded the Congregation as “Little Sisters of Jesus” with the help of the Most Rev.Dr.Roche S.J, the Bishop of Tuticorin and Rev. Fr. AloysiousNavamony on 21st June 1952.
The Most Rev.Antony Muthu D.D. the Bishop of Vellore brought the sisters to the diocese of Vellore during 1967. In 1980 the name of the Congregation was changed as “The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Most Rev.Dr. A.M.Chinnappa SDB the bishop of Vellore officially proclaimed the Congregation into a Diocesan Congregation under the leadership of Rev Mother Selin Mary. The Most Rev.Soundararaju SDB worked for making the Congregation into a Papal Congregation. On 23rd April 2017 the Most Rev.Soundararaju announced its new status as Papal Congregation by Rev Mother Amuthatheos.
A. PASTORAL MISSION
Our sisters promote Christian and moral values among the poor without any discrimination. They provide respect to their culture and beliefs.
A.1. Family Visit
The Sisters are visiting the families. They make them understand their problem and clarify the problematic areas. This brings the families friendliness and togetherness.
A.2.Gospel Mission
Our sisters provide spiritual instructions and talk in the groups and women association and meetings. These group activities help the people to think and become aware of their situation and to live according to the word of God.
A.3.Basic Christian Community
The sisters are preparing the basic Christian people to read the word of God, listening the word of God by step by step, meditating the word of God and experiencing the word of God with their reality of life. This process of spiritual sharing make them to release the emotion of their life and renewed with the spiritual strength in their way of life. Prayer service children ‘gathering
A.4.Pastoral activities
The sisters are helping the parishes in various activities in order to promote the Christian values and spiritual condition among children in Christian families. They are:
1. Sunday Class & Catechism
2. Prayer meeting for youth and women
3. Preparation for Sacraments
Mission of the congregation
The sisters are participating in the social action activities to emancipate children, women those who are down-trodden and less privileged in the society
1. Women Empowerment Programs
Vocational training such as tailoring, weaving, making flowers, garland, dolls and artificial ornaments are provided to widows and economically weak be independent to generate income.
2. Youth Development
Youth programs such as leadership program, motivational program, learning program, self-esteem program, career guidance program and personality development programs helps the youth to know the opportunities for career exploration.
3. Social Awareness programs
The sisters are creating social programs on environment and Psychological based social issues in the society. They are:

4. Medical Mission
The medical mission is covered in the remote and backward areas without any facilities such as transport and medical. The sisters have established mini health care centre at their mission area with qualified nurse.

5. Free Education
We take of care the children regarding physical, intellectual and aesthetic aspect of development on orphan, semi orphan, and street children with free lodging, boarding, and health care and recreation facilities.

The remote areas are held up with Psychological problems which affect their life. They are need of counseling which was given by our sisters.
C. Charity Institutions
C 1. Children’s Home
We help orphaned, semi orphaned and abandoned children. They remain unloved, uncared, unwanted and abandoned are given parental care in this home. They are motivated to feel of love and protection. The institutions are situated in Alagappapuram, Chettivilai,Kurusady,Pattarivilai,Murasancode,Kudathavarampatti,Pathiapuram,Idhayanagar, Nurkarunainagar and Athipet.
C 2. Aged home for neglected people
The Old age is multiple with illnesses and disability like cataracts, deafness resulting from nerve impairment, loss of mobility from arthritis. We rescue them from the street and other placesto our aged home. Here we provide food, shelter, medicine and peaceful recreational activities. places are karungal and tholayavattum.
C 3. Mentally & physically challenged women
Our Mercy Home is a heavenly place for mentally and physically challenged women.
C 4. Differently abled children
Our sisters dedicate their life to make differently abled children happy and healthy.
C 5. Palliative care of patients with HIV/ tuberculosis
We also work among HIV / AIDS affected people. We help them in different ways to pass through their hopelessness, helplessness and loneliness to a life with hope, support and togetherness.
C 6. Ministry among the dropout, street Children, Gypsy and Irular community:
We extend our mission to the Gypsy and the Irular communities are at the margin of the society. In fact, they are made vulnerable. The children of the gypsy and the Irular (Tribal) communities of Berigai area in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, India live in the hilly Terrains, Child beggary, child labour, child marriage, illiteracy, poverty are the rules of their daily living.

C.7 Service to Refugees
The sisters are extending the mission service according to the circumstances of the situation. The entering into new mission is a gift of God for the sisters on every year. Entered into new mission called “Srilankan refugees in Thangachimadam”.The children in the refugee’s camp are limited with the condition of the local Government .The sisters are doing ministry among the children and women to create awareness on right and privileges and governmental facilities.
